Smith | Artistic Programs Director \nA Grand Rapids native\, Katie E. Smith has a lifelong passion for the arts and a special love for working with children. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Minnesota Duluth\, with a minor in Dance. \nKatie has spent decades directing\, performing\, and choreographing throughout the Grand Rapids arts community. Audiences may recognize her from roles in Mamma Mia!\, The Music Man\, Chicago\, and Oklahoma! She began choreographing in 1995 and has directed productions including Aladdin and The Wizard of Oz\, along with creating original works for the stage. \nHer experience includes serving as Artistic Director of the Michigan Tech Dance Company\, owning a private dance studio\, and founding Young at Art to encourage young people to explore theatre and dance. She has also studied and worked in a variety of places around the world\, bringing a wealth of creativity and experience back to her hometown. \nKatie is excited to share her love of the arts and help others discover the creativity\, collaboration\, and hard work that bring performances to life at The Reif.

Could It Be Yours?\nLOOKING FOR LEADERS: \nWho care about business.\nWho care about our community.\nWho want to help shape what comes next. \nThe Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for upcoming seats on its Board of Directors. \nServing on the Chamber Board is an opportunity to bring your perspective to the table\, help guide the priorities and direction of the organization\, and be part of conversations that impact businesses throughout our area. \nWhy Serve?\nAs a Chamber Board member\, you will have the opportunity to: \n• Help shape Chamber priorities\, programs\, and advocacy efforts.\n• Represent the perspectives and needs of our business community.\n• Build relationships with business and community leaders.\n• Contribute your experience\, ideas\, and perspective to the Chamber’s future.\n• Help strengthen the business environment in the Grand Rapids area. \nWho Are We Looking For?\nWe are looking for engaged\, thoughtful leaders who care about business and our community and are willing to actively participate in the work of the Chamber. \nApplicants must be affiliated with an active Chamber member business or organization\, or hold an individual Chamber membership. We welcome applicants from different industries\, backgrounds\, business sizes\, and areas of experience who can bring valuable perspectives to the table. \nWhat Do We Need From You?\nYou do not need to have prior board experience or be an expert on every issue facing our business community. We are looking for Board members who are willing to: \n• Show up and participate in Board discussions and decisions.\n• Ask questions and bring your perspective to the table.\n• Respond to Board email inquiries\, including time-sensitive votes and requests for input.\n• Represent the Chamber and its membership in a positive and professional way.\n• Participate in and volunteer at Chamber events\, as you are able. \nWhat Is the Commitment?\nBoard terms are available for three years. \nThe Board meets eight times each year\, typically over lunch on the last Monday of the month.
